Ecclesiastical Pomp and Aristocratic Circumstance: A Thousand Years of Brocaded Tabletwoven Bands

from Nancy Spies' book on Medieval brocaded tabletwoven bands.
A Band from the Imperial Garments, 11th century, Diözesanmuseum, Bamberg.

This band is from one of the imperial garments discovered in Bamberg Cathedral. It bears a striking similarity to a band on the cope of St. Kunigunde. It can be closely compared to the border pattern on the bands that finish the glove cuffs of Pope Clement II and to the border pattern on the bands that edge the orphrey bands on the chasuble of St. Wolfgang at Regensburg, Germany.
