28 Ropework Projects
Illustrations by Ann Norman
Publication date: October 2003 Price: £10.99
ISBN: 0 7136 5441 4

Des Pawson's Knot Craft is a collection of fascinating projects, with step-by step instructions for making a wealth of items from knots, including bellropes, fenders, mats, doorstops and belts, along with the background to a variety of designs for different objects, and guidance as to how they can be the starting point for many other items. Des gives a breakdown of how to put the knots together, as well as the size and lengths of materials needed in each case, rather like a recipe book.

Ann Norman's beautiful and instructive illustrations assist the reader at every stage.

Des Pawson is the best known knot tyer alive today and has a world wide following. His passion for knots goes back to the time when, aged seven, he was given a knot book by his uncle. He has studied knots and sailor's ropework ever since. He teaches and demonstrates his skills at boat shows, festivals, musems and galleries, both in the UK and all over the world. In 1982 he co-founded the International Guild of Knot Tyers. He lives in Ipswich.

Ann Norman is a rope maker as well as an illustrator. Her love of traditional ropes goes back to seeing them on board ship at age five and continues through to her present garden rope walk. She has also illustrated books on ply-splitting and braiding and has written and self published her own book on the Tibetan Twister - a device for spinning yak hair used by Tibetan nomads. She lives in Bampton, Oxfordshire.
